Robotics
Robotics or Industrial Automation is a specialty area, which is an extension of the motor control and PLC classes. Students are trained to set up and program industrial robots.
The heart of the program is the Seiko Industrial Robots. As can be seen in the photo gallery the Seiko D-Tran 3200 series robots are integrated into work cells and interconnected by conveyors to simulate the manufacturing process. Students are involved in the mechanical setup as well as programming the robots to perform various tasks.
Having a dozen robots available for various student projects provides a unique learning experience. They are allowed to go beyond just looking at a robot programmed by the instructor. The students set and repair the robots in addition to programming them to perform tasks assigned by the instructor. Multiple work cells with conveyors allows students working on one robot to interact with the project of students on another robot.
The Robotics classes combined with other classes in the department prepare students for more advanced and specialized work in automated plants serving various industries throughout Southern California. |
